Ramna: Activists of opposition parties and various trade unions demonstrated in support of the strike called on Thursday against the alleged anti-labor policies including the four labor codes implemented by the central government, privatization policy and changes in MNREGA. During the sit-in demonstration on the Garhwa-Shri Banshidhar Nagar main road near Bhagat Singh Chowk at the block headquarters, the road was blocked for about 45 minutes, affecting traffic. Later, the Ramna police station reached the spot and after convincing the protesters, removed them from the road.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said that the four labor codes enacted by the central government are anti-labor and will benefit capitalists. They alleged that these laws will weaken workers’ rights. Leaders opposed the privatization of public enterprises, saying it will reduce employment opportunities and increase unemployment.
Speakers also questioned the changes made to MNREGA, saying that these would weaken the role of panchayats and impose centrally imposed schemes. They alleged that the central government’s policies were harming both farmers and laborers.
The meeting was addressed by CPI district secretary Rameshwar Prasad Akela, RJD state general secretary Abhay Kumar Pandey, CPI(M) district secretary Jaiprakash Gupta, Congress Seva Dal district organizer Ishwari Chaudhary, Rajkumar, and other leaders. A large number of workers, including Vinod Thakur, Rohit Pandey, Narangi Pal, Rajkumar Bhuiya, Munna Ram, Suneshwar Chandravanshi, Vidya Paswan, and Ramnath Oraon, were present at the event.
