Garhwa: The “Child Marriage Mukti Rath Yatra,” a 100-day intensive awareness campaign initiated by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, concluded in the district. Representatives of the Lohardaga Gram Swarajya Sansthan, speaking at the closing ceremony, said the positive response to the campaign has increased their confidence that the goal of a child marriage-free Garhwa and a child marriage-free India can be achieved soon.
It was reported that the Lohardaga Gram Swarajya Sansthan is one of the partner organizations of Just Rights for Children, the country’s largest network working to protect and safeguard children’s rights. This network works with more than 250 civil society organizations across the country to protect children’s rights.
The Child Marriage Liberation Chariot was flagged off in the district by the Deputy Development Commissioner, Garhwa. During the 12-day campaign, the Chariot traveled 2,257 kilometers across the district. During this time, it reached 94 villages in eight blocks of the district and raised awareness about the perpetuation of child marriage among approximately 35,000 people.
The program was launched as part of a nationwide campaign.
To mark the completion of one year of the Child Marriage Free India Campaign, the Ministry of Women and Child Development announced a nationwide, 100-day intensive awareness campaign on December 4, 2025. Just Rights for Children’s partner organizations spearheaded this campaign, organizing Child Marriage Free Chariots in 439 districts across the country to raise awareness.
This chariot traveled through villages and towns, informing people about the adverse effects of child marriage on health, education, and livelihoods. It also emphasized that child marriage is a punishable offense. Awareness messages were also spread through motorcycle and bicycle caravans to reach remote areas. It was described as a transformative campaign.
Describing the campaign as transformative, CP Yadav, Secretary of the Lohardaga Gram Swarajya Sansthan, said that it wasn’t just a symbolic journey, but a campaign carrying a message of social change, which people embraced. He added that child marriage is not just a social tradition but a serious violation of children’s rights, pushing girls into a vicious cycle of malnutrition, illiteracy, and poverty.
He said that with the support of the government, administration, and public representatives, this campaign has become a widespread movement with public participation. With everyone’s cooperation, the message of law, protection, and accountability to end child marriage has been spread to the public.

The campaign was conducted in three phases. The first phase involved organizing awareness programs in educational institutions. The second phase involved engaging religious leaders to request them to verify the age of the bride and groom before solemnizing marriages and to discourage child marriages.
In the third phase, awareness programs were conducted at the Panchayat level. Caterers, decorators, banquet hall operators, bands, and horsemen were also urged not to offer their services at child marriages, as even assisting in such cases could result in legal action.
Through the campaign, important initiatives were taken towards realizing the goal of child marriage free Garhwa.
