Majhiaon: Vishrampur MLA Naresh Prasad Singh on Wednesday raised the demand for construction of embankment on Koel river in Majhiyan through a starred question in the Jharkhand Assembly.
The MLA said that every year when the Koel river floods, erosion continues unabated, due to which the danger to the residents of Majhiyawan Nagar Panchayat and the farmers of the area is increasing.
He warned that if river embankments aren’t constructed immediately, erosion could spread to central villages and urban areas. Furthermore, farmers’ fertile land is being rapidly eroded, severely impacting their livelihoods and economic situation.
The MLA also said that some parts of Majhiyan urban area get submerged during floods, causing serious problems to the people.
In response, the government said that no river front construction work has been done so far on the banks of Koel River.
Vishrampur MLA Naresh Prasad Singh demanded that concrete and permanent steps should be taken to protect the fertile land of the farmers of Majhiyan Nagar Panchayat area and surrounding areas from erosion and floods, so that the people of the area can get relief from this problem.
