Majhiaon: Police arrested two accused in the murder case of Anurag Oraon, three-year-old son of Jainendra Oraon alias Jitendra Oraon, a resident of Obra village in the Bardiha police station area, and sent them to Garhwa jail on Thursday.
Sub-divisional Police Officer Neeraj Kumar issued a press release stating that a special investigation team was formed on the instructions of the Superintendent of Police. The team included SDPO Neeraj Kumar, Police Inspector Majhiaon Zone Brij Kumar, Bardihha Police Station in-charge Rishikesh Kumar Singh, Sub-Inspector Mrityunjay Kumar Rai, Anil Kumar, and armed forces personnel.
During the investigation, 37-year-old Lalan Oraon, a resident of Obra village, and his 18-year-old son, Vishal Oraon, were detained and interrogated on suspicion. Both confessed to their crimes.
Lalan Oraon told the police that his wife, Shobha Devi, had died of illness on January 4th. He suspected that the deceased child’s grandmother had taken his wife’s life by casting a spell on her. Based on this suspicion, and intent on revenge, he, along with his son Vishal, lured Anurag into their mud house while he was playing at around 4:30 pm on February 23rd and poisoned him. Later, at around 3 am, they stuffed the body into a sack and threw it in a nearby pigeon pea field. Following the accused’s directions, a jute sack, two slips labeled “Sulphas,” a packet of brown, odorous powder, a plastic packet labeled “Sulphas,” and a light-colored plastic sack were recovered from the scene, approximately 5 meters from the body.
It is known that Anurag’s body was recovered from a pigeon pea field on Monday. He was playing on the road about 50 yards from his home when he went missing. His mother, Meera Devi, filed an FIR under Section 137 (2) of the IPC at Bardiha police station on February 24th, case number 10/26. At the villagers’ request, a sniffer dog was also called in, and during the investigation, it landed near Lalan Oraon’s house. Subsequently, the father and son were taken into custody and rigorously interrogated, during which they admitted their involvement in the incident.
The police have sent both the accused to judicial custody and started further action.
