Garhwa: Polling for Nagar Palika (General) Elections 2026 concluded in a peaceful atmosphere in Garhwa district.

The District Election Officer and Superintendent of Police thanked the voters, polling personnel, security personnel and media personnel of the district for their cooperation in the voting process.

The District Election Officer (cum-Deputy Commissioner) and the Superintendent of Police jointly held a press conference at the local market committee premises to share essential information with the media regarding the successful and peaceful conduct of the Municipal (General) Elections 2026 in Garhwa district. During the press conference, District Election Officer Dinesh Yadav stated that all election-related tasks were completed in compliance with all State Election Commission guidelines, with the expected cooperation of all voters, citizens, polling personnel, police officers and personnel, and media personnel. Consequently, the Municipal (General) Elections 2026 were successfully held today, February 23, 2026. He further shared essential information, stating that a total of 21 wards and 42 polling stations were set up in Garhwa Municipal Council (Category B). In Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat, a total of 17 wards and 30 polling stations were set up, and in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat, a total of 12 wards and 17 polling stations were set up. There are a total of 34347 voters for Garhwa Nagar Parishad, in which 17570 are male and 16777 are female voters. Whereas under Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat, out of 26946 voters, 13749 are male and 13197 are female and under Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat, out of 15266 voters in Maldala, there are 7757 males and 7509 females. Apart from this, the District Election Officer (Municipality) cum Deputy Commissioner informed that the polling date was fixed today on 23.02.2026, in which the estimated voting percentage in Garhwa Nagar Parishad (Category B) under Garhwa District for the Municipal (General) Election 2026 was 67.77. Whereas the estimated voting percentage in Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat was 64.80 while the estimated voting percentage in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat was 64.35. Thus, the total average voting percentage of all three municipal areas of Garhwa district for the Municipal (General) Elections 2026 was recorded at 66.04.

In his address, Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar thanked the district’s voters, polling personnel, security personnel, and media personnel for their cooperation in the voting process. He stated that adequate security personnel were deployed to ensure the election process was conducted in a fair, peaceful, and fear-free environment. No untoward incidents or complaints warranting the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) were reported during the election process.

For the Nagar Palika (General) Election 2026 in Garhwa district, in all the three bodies, the polling percentage till 09 am in Nagar Parishad Garhwa (Category B) was 11.65%, whereas in Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat it was 12.18% and in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat it was 12.68%. (Total voting percentage of all three was 12.04%). Similarly, till 11 am, the total voting percentage was 23.68% in Nagar Parishad Garhwa (Category B), 24.97% in Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat and 26.35% in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat. (Total voting percentage of all three was 24.67%). Whereas till 01 pm, the total voting percentage was 38.47% in Nagar Parishad Garhwa (Category B), 39.83% in Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat and 41.94% in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat. (Total voting percentage of all three was recorded as 39.64%). Till 3 pm, the total voting percentage was 53.30% in Nagar Parishad Garhwa (Category B), 54.28% in Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat and 58.42% in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat. (Total voting percentage of all three was recorded as 54.67%). Till 5 pm, the total voting percentage was 63.32% in Nagar Parishad Garhwa (Category B), 63.07% in Shri Banshidhar Nagar Panchayat and 62.80% in Majhiaon Nagar Panchayat. (Total voting percentage of all three was recorded as 63.13%). The voting process was completed in a peaceful environment at all the booths. In an enthusiastic environment, the voters ensured their participation in the voting process.

It is noteworthy that the 2026 Municipal (General) Elections were conducted using ballot papers and ballot boxes, and NOTA was not an option. Voting was scheduled from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Votes cast for candidates will be counted on February 27, 2026.
